Hyundai revealed the Korean-spec Avante Sport. Manual is standard, and the 7-speed DCT is optional. The 1.6T 4-cyl is making 201 hp and 195 lb-ft. Should be a cross between a Civic Si and a Jetta GLi. Thank you !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

That’s the same mill as in the Veloster turbo, right? If that car’s any indication, the thing that will keep this car from being anything like either a GLI or a Civic Si is going to be the feel issues: power delivery makes the car feel slower than it is, the steering rack tuning is incredibly meh, and the suspension is just kind of lame.

I drove an Elantra GT with this engine and a 6-speed. It felt a lot like a more grown up version of the Fiesta ST.

Hyundai needs to work on their manual transmissions, that and smooth power delivery are what keep knocking their cars off recommendation lists.

Yeah, I’m not jumping up for this one either. I’m fine with Tesla mill since it’s been reworked and the transmissions will help as well, but no IRS and the fact that Hyundai NEVER puts in the time on the steering rack makes it a disappointment for me.

I’m happy they are moving up the performance ladder though. I just wish they didn’t hold back and expect feature content and connectivity to be all the Forte and Elantra would need. They underestimated the competition and it’s going to force a ton of changes needing to take place all at once in two years.

With the initial reports about Honda’s 1.5T and no Si numbers announced yet, they’re still going to be a price player unless they get the tuning and feature set right. They had an opportunity when Honda whiffed in 12, but with the initial reports about the new Civic their window of opportunity has all but closed.

I had an Elantra GT as a week long rental while I was working in Washington. I hated the thing but it grew on me throughout the week (but I still didn’t like it). Same thing happened with the new 1.6T Tuscon. The throttle and engine tuning is set up to overpower the front wheels and make it “feel” like these are mini-muscle cars rather than how Kia “usually” maps everything to feel more linear (like everyone else). Hyundai just does silly stuff, I’m still a fan though.

It’s basically a Veloster Turbo without the rear end coming out of the Accent.
